About this hotel

Stretching into the water, Muir, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Halifax resembles a ship floating in the Atlantic. It’s fitting for Muir, whose name means “the sea” in Gaelic, one of the languages spoken in Nova Scotia. The Halifax hotel is part of three wharf structures in Queen’s Marque, a new waterfront downtown district. One of the region’s best-known architects, Brian MacKay-Lyons, drew on the capital city’s rich marine and mercantile history for a modern, abstract interpretation of the ocean for buildings with a deep sense of place. The exterior is sandstone sourced from quarries in Wallace, Nova Scotia. The contemporary, neutral interiors feature local natural materials like salt and pepper granite, sandstone, Muntz metal and walnut. Meanwhile, the vessel theme subtly flows through the spaces — nearly all of the 109 rooms overlook the water, bar shelves and bathroom mirrors recall portholes, and rooms are covered with gray oak planks and one-of-a-kind Nova Scotia sea landscapes.
